    Estamos en febrero,  y en Nueva York hay tres cosas que definen este mes, frío, San Valentín y la Semana de la Moda. Las modelos esquivan los bloques de nieve mientras corren de desfile en desfile con sus tacones por las calles de la ciudad. No hace falta que vayas a ninguna pasarela, lo mejor se ve en las calles.

   Pero tuve la suerte de ser invitada a uno de esos "descubrimientos" que tanto me gustan. El título, Opulente Decadencia, la diseñadora, Katarina Grey. Una talentosa y jovencísima barcelonesa que hace con las telas, la aguja y el hilo verdaderas obras de arte.

    Éste no fue su primer desfile en la Gran Manzana, ya hizo su debut en la Semana de la Moda el pasado septiembre. En esta ocasión eligió el PentHouse del Hotel Nomad con una muy acertada y diferente puesta en escena. Durante dos horas las modelos, como estatuas vivientes, exhibían los diseños subidas a unas plataformas. Así todos podíamos apreciar cada detalle, textura, tela y costura mientras compartíamos impresiones con el resto de invitados tomando un cocktail. 

  Una colección inspirada en la opulencia de Versalles que traslada las molduras, herrajes y cerraduras más sofisticadas y rebuscadas del palacio, a chaquetas de cuero, faldas y vestidos para las ocasiones más especiales. Telas riquísimas, volúmenes exagerados y transparencias que muestran e insinúan los cuerpos de las modelos. 

   Cuando dejas todo en busca de nuevos horizontes y encuentras compatriotas en busca de lo mismo te ilusionas por tu futuro y te enorgulleces de tus raíces. Espero poder encontrarme con Katarina en muchas ocasiones y en circunstancias parecidas y que cada vez estemos más cerca de nuestros sueños.

   It is February, and in New York there are three things that define this month: cold, Valentine's Day and the Fashion Week. The models have to walk through the snow blocks while runing from show to show in their heels all around the city. There is no need to go to the runways, the best things are in the streets.

  Luckily I was invited to one of these "discoveries" that I like so much. The title: "Opulent Decadence", the designer: Katarina Grey. A talented young designer from Barcelona, who converts fabric, needle and thread into works of art. 

   This was not her first fashion show in the Big Apple, she had her debut at the Fashion Week last September, and for this occasion she chose the Penthouse of the Nomad Hotel with a very true and different display.

For two hours, the models were ahowing the designs standing in platforms like living statues. This way we all could appreciate every detail, texture, fabric and sewing while we shared opinions with the rest of guests with a cocktail. 

   The collection is inspired by the opulence of Versailles, which turns the moldings and hinges locks of the palace, to leather jackets, skirts and dresses for the most special occasions.

    When you leave everything in search of new horizons and you find other people with your same origins in looking for the same things,  it makes you dream about your future while beign proud of your roots. I hope to meet Katarina again in similar circumstances and see how we get closer to our dreams.
