Lights and Shapes, Jean Nouvel

  Cuando caminas por Nueva York sólo tienes que estar un poco atento si eres arquitecto, cazatendencias, blogero o simplemente te gusta el diseño. De calle en calle, de esquina en esquina, hay algo que admirar. Y además literal: en la esquina sur Frank Gehry y en la norte Jean Nouvel.

   Una torre de viviendas, creada  por el arquitecto francés, con una fachada formada por un muro cortina de  más de 1600 paneles de vidrio, con distintas inclinaciones y diferentes colores que vienen de los vitrales de la Catedral Gótica de Sainte-Chapelle de París. Además, en la parte inferior la fachada se separa unos 4,5m y, por dentro, un atrio semi-cerrado alberga un jardín suspendido. 

   Los desiguales tamaños, colores y ángulos de las ventanas crean, tanto en el interior como en le exterior, un juego de luces y sombras que, junto con las formas, me recuerdan mucho a los cuadros de Mondrian pero esta vez creados por Nouvel; arte hecho arquitectura.

  Qué maravilla debe de ser vivir en un edificio como este, pero me conformo con poder pasear y disfruta.

   If you are an architect, coolhunter, blogger or desigñ lover, you only have to pay a little attention when walking around New York. There's always something to see in each street and corner. And I mean it! In  the South corner: Frank Gehry, in the North corner: Jean Nouvel.

   The building is a residential tower created by the french architect, with a courtine wall facade made of more than 1600 glass panels placed in different angles and with different colors. Nouvel found his inspiration in the glasses of the gothic Cathedral "Saint Chapelle" in Paris.

   More over, the bottom of the facade separater about 4,5m and in the interior there is an atrium with a hanging garden!

   The unequal sizes, colors and angles of the windows create a game of lights and shadows inside and outside the buildin that remind me of Mondrian's pictures. But this time created by Nouvel: art became architecture.

   It must be wonderfull living in a building like that, but I'm happy with walking around and enjoying so much inspiration together in 11th Ave.

  El maestro de las formas y de los geniales materiales tiene otro edificio en la Gran Manzana. Cuando llegué a la ciudad el edificio todavía tenía algunas grúas y tenían que quitarles algunos plásticos a las miles de ventanas, pero ya se ha terminado y ya viven en él, el que puede...

  Este nuevo edificio de Gehry, situado en Downtown, es el edificio residencial más alto de occidente y se llama Beekman Tower. Las formas onduladas de la fachada dan la sensación de que el edificio está en movimiento, como si la brisa del East River moviera el acero inoxidable por el que está recubierto, como si de una falda se tratara. Además se reflejan las distintas luces a lo largo del día, dándole aún más movimiento.

   El edificio tiene tres tipos de apartamentos, con uno, dos o tres dormitorios, y los precios son más que razonables para ser de quién es, pero mucho más para estar en Manhattan, creedme...

   Ver el edificio justo desde abajo es emocionante, no me imagino cómo serán desde el rooftop, seguro que algún día os lo cuento.

   The master of the shapes and the shiny materials has another building in the Great Apple. When I came to the city the building had some derricks and they had to take some plastics from the windows, but it is already finished and there is people living there, just the ones who can afford it...

   Gehry's new building, placed in Downtown, is the highest residential building of Occident and it is called Beekman Tower. The wavy forms of the front give the sensation of movement, as if the breeze of the East River was moving the stainless steel, like if it was a skirt. In addition, the different lights are reflected throughout the day, giving it even more movement.

   The building has three types of apartments, with one, two or three bedrooms, and prices are more than reasonable to be this building, and even more talking about Manhattan, trust me...

   Watching the building from right below is exciting, I can’t imagine how it would be the view from the rooftop, I’ll tell you some day...

    Se ve desde cualquier parte de la ciudad, pero desde Brooklyn se puede ver lo bien que encaja en el nuevo skyline de la isla.

    It can be seen from anywhere in the city, but from Brooklyn we can appreciate how well it fits into the new skyline of the island.

   Cómo una estructura tan sólida, con materiales como éstos, puede dar esta sensación de movimiento?

    How can it give this sensation of movement with these solid structures, and these materials?

    Las formas que se aprecian en el exterior del edificio se reflejan en el interior. Sería un sueño poder trabajar uno de estos interiores.

    The shapes that can be appreciated in the exterior of the building are reflected in the interior. It would be a dream working with one of these interiors.
