  La primera vez que pasé por el 3 Legged Dog Art & Technology Center, 3DL, fue inevitable acordarme de uno de mis  trabajos de la época de estudiante que hice cuando estaba en IADE - mi escuela de diseño - el último año, con Leticia Quintana, mi amiga y compañera de todo. Consistía en la reforma del emblemático Mercado de la Paz de Madrid y nosotras nos inspiramos en los hexágonos, al igual que, imagino yo, Thomas Leeser, el arquitecto del 3 Legged Dog Art & Technology Center, para diseñar esta genial entrada.

    Se encuentra en el 80 de Greenwich St., en el Distrito Financiero de Nueva York. La fachada es acristalada y curvada con una entrada hexagonal que refleja lo que ocurre en el interior. "El tubo" hexagonal es un pasillo distribuidor por el que se accede a todas las salas. Un espacio futurista, como sacado de una enorme nave espacial donde da la sensación que de cada puerta saldrá una mujer con un traje muy ceñido de algún material plástico y brillante, con un gran moño, calculando en su bloc de notas la distancia entre la nave y la próxima estrella.

   3DL es un espacio dedicado al arte y la tecnología, donde hacen representaciones teatrales, filmación de platós de televisión, presentaciones de artistas -sobre todo experimentales-, audiciones de música, incluso se alquila para fiestas privadas y eventos.

    Cuando hacíamos el trabajo sólo veíamos hexágonos, hexágonos por todas partes. Experimenté esa misma sensación la primera vez que vi 3DL y más aún cuando entré a conocerlo. Qué recuerdos, qué añoranza...

    The first time that I walked by the 3 Legged Dog Art and Technology Center, 3DL, I couldn’t help to remember one of my works from my student times at IADE - my school of design - with Leticia Quintana, my friend and life mate. Our project was about the reform of the emblematic “Market of the Peace” (Mercado de la Paz) in Madrid and we got out inspirations from the hexagonal shape. I assume that Thomas Leeser, the architect of 3 Legged Dog Art and Technology Center, was inspired in hexagons too when designing this great entry.

    It is placed in 80 Greenwich St., in the Financial District of New York. The front is glazed and curled with a hexagonal entry that reflects what happens in the interior. "The hexagonal tube" is a distribution corridor to get to all the rooms. The 3DL is a futurist space, like extracted from a huge spaceship. It seems like you are going to find a woman from the future with a very tight and brilliant suit made of plastic, calculating in her notepad the distance between the ship and the next star.

    3DL is a space dedicated to art and technology, where there are theatre shows, TV shows, artists' presentations - especially experimental-, music auditions... it is also available for private parties and events.

   When my friend and I were doing our project at school, we only saw hexagons, hexagons everywhere. I had the same feeling the first time I saw 3DL and even more when I began to study it. Lots of memories came to my mind...!

   Debería haber ido con ese traje ceñido y plastificado de cremallera infinita para hacerme las fotos...

    I should have worn that tight and plastic suit with a long zipper to take these pictures!

    El tubo hexagonal unión de cada uno de los espacios del centro, también sirve como lugar de exposición.
   The hexagonal tube is a union for each space in the center. It is also used as place for exhibitions.

    Me encantaría tener una foto como esta de 3DL pero de "nuestro" Mercado de la Paz.
    I would love to have a picture like that but from “our” Market in Madrid.

    Es fundamental para un buen diseño que todo esté pensado y que se siga la misma linea hasta el más mínimo detalle.
    It is fundamental for a good design that everything should follow the same lines (even in the smallest details) if you want to achieve a good design.
