Eight Spruce Street, Gehry

...
The master of the shapes and the shiny materials has another building in the Great Apple. When I came to the city the building had some derricks and they had to take some plastics from the windows, but it is already finished and there is people living there, just the ones who can afford it...
Gehry's new building, placed in Downtown, is the highest residential building of Occident and it is called Beekman Tower. The wavy forms of the front give the sensation of movement, as if the breeze of the East River was moving the stainless steel, like if it was a skirt. In addition, the different lights are reflected throughout the day, giving it even more movement.
The building has three types of apartments, with one, two or three bedrooms, and prices are more than reasonable to be this building, and even more talking about Manhattan, trust me...
Watching the building from right below is exciting, I can’t imagine how it would be the view from the rooftop, I’ll tell you some day...

It can be seen from anywhere in the city, but from Brooklyn we can appreciate how well it fits into the new skyline of the island.

How can it give this sensation of movement with these solid structures, and these materials?

The shapes that can be appreciated in the exterior of the building are reflected in the interior. It would be a dream working with one of these interiors.

Another designs of the architect. Two big architectures about which I will speak in future posts. The cranks inspired in his fishes and another chair that I hope to I’ll have some day.

...

At the beginning of June I bought my sister silver trousers from H&M for her birthday. It was so hot and humid in the city that it was impossible to wear long trousers in summer and even
more impossible a trousers like these... So today she put them on and we went out for a walk in
Brooklyn.
Here, fashion is whatever anyone wants to wear. But shiny colours are in all the modes and styles, in shoes and purses, in dresses and jackets, in jewels, obviously, and even in nails!!!
Silver came back to the streets of New York, or it never left?

    NO PARKING!!!

Silver shoes in ZARA, Louboutin, and even in HUNTER boots.

The trousers on the right are from ZARA. My sister’s trousers and TheBlondeSalad's shorts are from H&M. And if TheBlondeSalad says so...

El bolso es de Marc Jacobs. Las camisetas y el vestido, de Forever21.
The purse is from Marc Jacobs. The vests and the garment, from Forever21.

    Plata, plata, plata por doquier.
    Silver, silver, silver everywhere...

With a stage like Brooklyn and models like this girl... It’s already done!

Tulip Chair

One of the marvels of living in NY is to stumble over a shop of design furnitures while you walk with your friends along Broadway. This store has many second hand furniture and it was there where I fell in love. An original Tulip chair from Ero Saarinen of the 50s for $25!!! This way it is very easy to fall in love at first sight... But also, I was with my friend Elisa, expert in the art of the bargaining who got the chair for $15... Isn’t it great??? It needed a good cleanliness, several retouches and some arrangements, but it was not possible to ask any more, or less... One of the best buys that can happen in a lifetime!
This chair is a dream came true, and more in this occasion. I am in love with its organic shapes that mate perfectly to the body when you sit on it. It was designed to adapt better to the spaces, eliminating the conventional four legs, including a round foot of molten aluminium. The seat is made of fiber glass, with a cushion draped in fabric or leather that allows you to customize your own chair.
The chair is commercialized by the brand Knoll, or you can also find them in stores as the one where I found mine.

Elisa y yo llevándola a casa. Mi felicidad es notable...
Elisa and I taking it home. You can see how happy I am...

The Tulip design can be found with or without arms and also as stool.

Knoll commercializes it with the foot in white, silvering or black and thousands of colours for the cushion of the seat. They also sell it with a draped support.

Its forms and materials allow it to fit in any environment or style.

Other designs of the architect Ero Saarinen, as one of the terminals of the JKF airport in NY, or the table and the lamp with the same name and design “Tulip”.
